Paul Mitchell Schools - Hair Coloring Review

This school will over charge you any way they can. They constantly raise their prices. It's ridiculous. I was charged 38.00$ for a root touch up and clear shines through my ends. Don't go there. I just found a professional salon near my home that charges 40.00 for a root touch up and i don't have to put up with a student doing my hair and the 3 to 4 hours that it takes.

Unprofessional!!!! Unorganized!!!! This school is all about money. When I suggested that Caper should have a standard rule that all students should have to sell the bags individually with out their rich parents purchasing the bags all at once Lanell at the Denver location said she will not set any rules to the contest other than using sites like GoFundMe. It completely takes away from students who doesn't know people who buys Paul Mitchell products has no to little connections or those students who works after school. This school doesn't give people a fair chance or opportunity. Lanell didn't make rules to caper because she wasn't concerned about those that are less fortunate. Lanell and Marcus argued with me about it and didn't validate my opinion at all. They even rolled their eyes and yelled at me. The school had guess speakers come in and they taught us nothing took away class time to talk about their personal lives. This school charges students for everything. The school didn't offer applicator bowls or brushes or clipper combs or smocks. You have a seperate supply list that you have to purchase on your own. The new teacher wasn't properly prepared to teach the class she was learning with us. Chaos and a total nightmare! The learning leaders spend most of their time talking and walkimg the halls instead of keeping on track with their jobs and helping students. This school is a fluke and a fraud. Don't Do It!!!!

I went in to get my gray covered with highlights. My highlights were added but my gray was not covered and the instructors told my stylist that the toner would cover the gray.

It is hard to see in the lighting of the salon it's very deceiving .. when I got home I called them to let them know that it did not cover my gray. Needless to say the gal that works there who answered my call asked me if it was a habit of mine to call afterwords to try and get a free hair color. Basically she was calling me a liar and that my hair was satisfactory to her although she didn't see my hair and wanted me to come in and prove that I had gray hair??

Not wanting to drive through traffic to go and prove to her about my hair why would I call??

I was supposed to assume that they were professionals?? In other words she was trying to tell me that they will have to charge me again after I paid $70. I had a credit for highlights but it didn't show on the account under my name , The credit was because the student could not complete my hair...

Of course they could not find my credit?? But she could find that I have gone in there previously to get my hair redone from a person that could not finish my hair due to the fact that I have so much. I don't have a problem paying for my hair I simply told her that I go there so that the students can learn from their mistakes and I would prefer to tip them then someone that already has a business going. I know what it is to struggle when we are going to school and trying to make ends meet.

That is my contributions to helping a young entrepreneur to succeed in life and have a Nice tip from me. I have always tipped everyone regardless as to whether they do good or bad it's their time that I consumed and they deserve at least some money. My typical tip is $20 and I usually judge them by their personality and charisma communication and their job. The most I paid somebody was $75 because they did such a great job!

Paul Mitchell has now lost a great customer and someone who tips their students well. My tip to your trainers or educators customer service is how to take care of your customers not how you think you should judge them or feel like they're trying to get over... These kids are learning and every time we had customers call back to get our hair corrected should be obliged and help the student learn by it or from it?? money is not an issue for me, customer service and satisfactory for one is..

This goes to the rep that answered my phone call from Portland Oregon Paul Mitchell I believe your name is Rayanna who happens to be the advisor... You need to learn customer service skills.. People will respect those who respect others and not accuse them of things that you have no facts on??

I'm sure the brothers who own Paul Mitchell will not find this very good ratings for their school.. I have been a Paul Mitchelle client for many years.

This was my first time ever going to any beauty school and the last. The teacher/instructor was very insulting and rude. She said out loud that my hair was damaged and doing a test on my hair would be a complete waste of time. If this is how they are training students to treat clients then they are setting them up fir failure. Not professional service at all. Wouldn't take my dog there to get groomed.

EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED PARENT OF A PAUL MITCHELL ‘the school” DENVER STUDENT

May 2016: My daughter attends Paul Mitchell "the school" Denver. After paying several thousands of dollars for her to attend school for 9 months now, my daughter still is still not able to do a men's cut, mix color or feel confident about coloring or cutting anyone's hair.

Students were provided with no nail or make-up training and only had about 10 minutes of facial training. Students have not received a nail kit and will ultimately fail the state exams without the instruction necessary for them to pass. There is one male teacher (Marcus) who has been known to sit at the door to the school and send students home in the morning if they are one minute late (even if they have a valid reason for being late) and consistently degrades and belittles the students. If anyone from Corporate office would do a surprise visit (and not allow the teachers to pretend to be on their best behavior for the time Corporate representatives are at the school) or just video tape what goes on in that school (or actually videotape what doesn't go on at that school) they'd be as disgusted as I am.

My daughter calls me after school every time she has had a client during the day, and is so excited and is ready to put up with all of the negative aspects of attending the school for about 2 days after her client has left. Then, with no instruction (and basically no tools anymore since theft by the students occurs daily) my daughter basically is left to feeling useless, inadequate and unskilled. I have had three calls from my daughter this year (since January 2016) after my daughter has had her only clients (and it's May 2016 now). THREE CLIENTS!!!!

How are the students supposed to learn when there are no stations or clients available to them since there are too many students enrolled in the school without enough teachers to assist them in their "supposed" learning process? My daughter has basically learned nothing in her 9 months of attending the school. And, I know this is the case for the rest of the students who are standing around texting for the several hours at a time (or those who are lucky enough to have a station for the day to sit at while they text) while I have been at my appointments. Students are quitting constantly and I am just appalled!!!!

However, family’s like mine are consistently sending their kids to the school thinking that they will have a bright future with the Paul Mitchell school name behind them so the school apparently doesn’t care that the instruction and teachers are worthless since they keep getting other new students. Three (3) teachers have quit within the last few weeks with no replacements. And, as a client, who has gone to the school to get my hair done by my daughter, I know how hard it is to even get a teacher to acknowledge the student's existence, much less help the students learn anything. And, as stated earlier, because there are so few lockers, and no locker was provided to my daughter, almost all of my daughter’s supplies have been stolen by other students.

This school is not worth attending and should be shut down. The Paul Mitchell name now disgusts me!!!!!!

My daughter will be videotaping and recording teachers for the next few days. After my husband and I review the tapes, we will be making a decision regarding removing my daughter from the school and will be speaking with our lawyers regarding potential legal action against the school and against the male teacher (Marcus) who should have already been taken to court multiple times due to defamation.

Preferred solution: Corporate needs to start monitoring and managing the schools to ensure they are providing the utmost/best instruction to students who pay a lot of money to attend the schools. Obtain more instuctors who care about their students and learning.

That's because there only goal is for students to get their cosmetology license. Nothing else matters!

Guest

Understand that the schools are just teaching introductory to Cosmetology and the only thing TDLR is concerned about is if you are safe and not a liability to the general public, they don't care if you can do hair. A Cosmetologist license is a very wide umbrella and covers quite a lot of material so my suggestion would be for the prospective student to find out what they want to specialize in and get a specialty license.

Nails-Nail Tech/Manicurist, Facial and Skin Care- Esthetician, Hair additions- Wig/Extensions/Braider. When I was in school I was doing a apprenticeship in a salon as a Shampooist and it helped me so much. Trust me whenever you graduate you will throw all of it out the window and learn on the fly in a real salon. Also Toni & Guy lets their students specialize in color or cuts.

I personally went to Ogle here in TX and was beyond pleased with the standard of education. Your hours should transfer to another school and only have to pay for hours completed.

Guest

So it's not just the Webster, TX location? There are so many students and no instruction.

Just unsupervised gossip and sniping all day.

This good product line's reputation is going to end up ruined by their shoddy, unprofessional schools. They should get out now.

Guest

Did anyone ever sue or did anything ever come of this? Currently attending a PM school in Wisconsin and dealing with a lot of the same problems.

Guest

Same scenario at the School in Tulsa! Wish corporate would listen.

The school is supposed to be for educating- yet it's just a poorly managed business being funded by Parents like us.

The employees are very unprofessional , bullies, and play favorites.

Guest

Wow, my daughter had a similar experience at Paul Mitchell in Colorado Springs. She still hasn't gotten her stuff letting her get her license and they won't talk to me about it and my daughter is so shaken up by them, she's afraid to call them.

I would like to figure out where to go from here. This is an awful school

Guest

My daughter goes to Paul Mitchell in Denver as well. I hear the same horror stories.

My daughter told me this morning that the students now have to buy their own hair color for their practice dolls!!! Things are out of control and we need to stand together!!! I want my daughter out of there and her schooling paid for at another institute by Mr. Paul Mitchell.

I am going to get a lawyer on Monday and I am going to expose this shenanigan publicly everywhere!!!! Enough is enough.

If you need any help please let me know! My partner goes to Paul Mitchell Denver and has had a horrible experience with dealing with the director who is completely inappropriate with favortism, unethical, no professionalism what so ever.

Staff have quit almost every month, they don't teach the ciriculum needed for state boards since that teacher also quit this month! She allows staff to be rude and unprofessional towards students and clients with no repercussions

I don't understand how someone f could mistake getting my haircut in signing up for school I think it's very rude how they responded when I said that I wasn't going to sign up for their school and I wanted to get my haircut. They hung up on me and completely ignored what I was trying to say to them. That is very unprofessional and disrespectful I don't even know if I want to get my hair done there but I don't to go all the way to Provo to get it done

I recently attended the Paul Mitchell school in Norman for 6mo before I dropped. Yes I do believe that the curriculum and the systems that they have for you to learn are the best, but the way the school is ran is awful. This school is way over capacity and one of the teachers even told us they were trying to reach capacity but that doesn't benefit us students because there's not enough teachers for that many students when you need help. We even had to eat our lunch on the floor or outside on the grass because there was no where to sit. There was also not enough salon stations for every student that was on the floor, or enough parking spaces. And if you had a problem and wanted to talk with an advisor about it they just treated you like *** or made you feel bad for complaining. . This school is not big enough for the amount of students they let in and does not have enough teachers to help each student. I do feel that I got ripped off!

RUN, RUN, RUN, AS FAST YOU CAN !!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

RUN, RUN, RUN, AS FAST YOU CAN !!!! THEY WILL DAMAGE AND DESTROY YOUR HAIR!!!!

I purchased a Groupon t have highlights, a cut, and style. Who knew it would take 7 hours and complete destruction of my hair. Never one apology, only you owe $20.00. To begin if you have long hair , they will charge you an addition $10.00 per bowl used.

Each bowl equal 3 ounces. That was the first part of the Ponzi scheme. The next part is if you need toner, if the stylist bleaches your hair to pure white, that is additional $10.00. My stylist Joy seem sweet at first, but between the drama with her childcare issues and be very boastful of her talents, that is where it went wrong.

I explained to her that I wanted camel highlights to brighten up my mocha brown hair. You showed me several pics, but I guess she never showed me her mistakes either. She started my hair at 2pm. She proceeded to wrap my foil for almost 3 hours.

I kept asking her, should we not remove the front ones as the bleach was on my hair for over 1 hour. She stated that it stop processing after 15 minutes(1st lie). The manager on duty(Roula) took several strolls by. When I voiced my concern, she stated the same.

It was nearly reaching 5:00pm and they still had foils on my hair. She told me she used 4 bowls of lightening bleach on my hair, that is equivalent to1 1/2 cups. At this point I was in panic mode. She proceeded to take me to the back and remove the foils.

Never once did ask would I like something to drink or even eat? As, she proceeded to take the foil off,she stated how perfect it was. (2nd lie). She proceeded to wash everything out and then she brought me to her chair.

I took one glance and I was in tears and pure panic mode. My hair was chalk white! It felt like a bale of hay. After my reaction, she stated that we needed to tone it to blend with my hair.

This young women is graduating in a few weeks, this is frightening!!! She took to another chair and placed the toner on. After it was washed, she escorted me back to her hair. It was NIGHTMARE, MY BEAUTIFUL HAIR WAS FRIED,BROKEN, STRAW-LIKE, AND LOOKED LIKE I WAS THE LIVING DEAD.

After, I proceeded to ask for another supervisor, she decided to blow my hair out, pulling and tugging. I asked her to stop. Her baby daddy was calling her! Oh, I forgot the haircut took less than five minutes.

She got a new manager, who strutted around and stated when I asked about the quality of my hair-Did you ever have your hair lightened. It suppose to feel like straw, you will have to get used to this. She was in her early forties. She was more interested in leading a dance party in the next room.

It is now almost 7:00pm and they introduce to a very nice young woman. She was kind and proceeded to attempt to correct the damage the first stylist did. By, the way, she just stormed out, without apology. I explained to the young woman my hair felt very damage .

She did conditioner and placed me under a dryer. I spoke to the Dancing Queen(Mgr.) about the $20.00 dollar charge and she said you would be responsible for the product used on your hair. I know, INSANE! It is almost 9:00pm and the partying, continued.

Never once, did she come over and apologize, only to ask for money! I proceeded to ask for the director. A man in short stature comes over to me. It told be he was the Director of Education.

He continued to explain to me, that these are student and THEY DO MAKE ERRORS. YOU COME TO THE SCHOOL TO HELP THEM FURTHER THERE EDUCATION. SO, IF SOMETHING TRAGIC HAPPENS, AS IN MY CASE, YOU STILL CHARGE $20.00, HE SAID YES! I shared with him, I was going to go directly to YELP!

I asked him to have the managing director called me the next day. He would not even give me his name. I even further asked why would you want me to walk away feeling so devastated! All he wanted was the $20.00 for the product his student used to destroy my hair.

Never did one of the manager feel my hair, look at the damage, or even send me home with product to condition or fix the fried and chemically damage ends. I finally gave them there money and walked away. Please do not make the mistake I made. The lies continued and I am forced to dish out additional money to get Brazilian Keratin treatment for my hair.

They had other episodes of damaging people hair while I was there. Honestly, allowing these kids to play in people's hair when they have no idea how to do the BASICS is problematic. Yes, it is a school, but having Instructors and manager acting like it is school dance party is really sickening.

It took a total of 7 1/2 hours to destroy my hair, I was offered no food or even a bottle of water. There were so many lies that I lost count.

You sound ridiculous, clearly you went there to get your hair done because you are too cheap to go to a real salon where what you wanted done would cost over a hundred dollars and you wanted it done for $20. You knew ahead of time there is a good chance they could mess it up, you know a lot of them are young and not the most professional as far as customer service.

Knowing all that you just had to be cheap and try saving money. They really didn't charge you for the cut they charge for the products used on your hair. Which sounds like they used quite a bit. You aren't a child they don't need to offer you food or a drink you have a mouth which clearly you had no problem using to try and get something for nothing.

You wanted celebrity treatment for $20 haha. Stop bashing other people because you got actually more than you paid for.

If you say there all that time unhappy why not just get up and leave and go somewhere else. Grow up

My daughter is a student at Paul Mitchell, and they don't start this stage of doing hair until they have had some time under their belt. Students confer with the instructors on how they should proceed.

So who's fault is it really? Whether someone pays $20 or $100 is not the issue nor should it matter.

Its not about being cheap..Yeah, there is a chance of something happening, but this is also giving the students the experience they need. If a student cannot get it right at this phase then there is a problem.

Guest

You have to be patient with the students. They are only students learning to do hair.

You kinda get what you paid for honestly.

If you want quality service, than you need to go to a professional stylist. You pay for the quality.

Guest

Well, what do you expect. It is a school.

They are students learning.

Stop being cheap. If you want quality service go to a salon were someone is license.

Quaron Gcz

This is not a restaurant, they are not required to feed you.
